On Trend Tuesday: Capes

It is the first official On Trend Tuesday blog post, and I could not be more excited. Today the talk is all about capes. We have seen them at fashion weeks on the runway and now we are seeing them in retail stores. With that being said, it is no surprise that mine is from the Banana Republic X Olivia Palermo collection. Have you figured out I am obsessed yet?

Although this cape is clearly a statement piece and speaks for itself, there are different elements that really set it apart for me. Not only does it have a great herringbone pattern and texture to it, it also has amazing added ruffle detailing. The part that sealed the deal for me was the belt. Capes can be hard when it comes to making sure they are figure flattering because they tend to run on the boxy side of things. The addition of the belt really allows you to create a great silhouette that draws attention to your waist.

I paired my cape with my favorite faux leather leggings by SPANX and completed the look with a red pump shoe. Don’t be afraid to add your own personal style twist on things and get creative. Lets say you wanted to make this more of a casual look, here is my tips.

Layer the cape over a turtleneck
Switch out leather leggings for distressed denim
Ditch the heels and put on a great pair of fashion sneakers
